InBody Scan Halifax
Professional body composition analysis in 60 seconds. The InBody 270 measures muscle mass, body fat, water, and segmental lean analysis. Far beyond what a bathroom scale can tell you. Members and non-members welcome.

The InBody 270 uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), sending a safe, low-level electrical current through your body to measure how different tissues conduct it. In 60 seconds you get a full body composition breakdown, measured the same way every time so you can track real change.
Skeletal Muscle Mass
The muscle you train, measured in kilograms. Tracks gains from training over weeks and months.
Body Fat Mass & Percentage
How much fat you carry, and what percentage of your total weight it represents. Not just one number, total fat by mass and ratio.
Total Body Water & ECW/TBW Ratio
Hydration status: about 50-65% of your body weight should be water. The extracellular to total water ratio is a health and inflammation indicator, so higher ratios can signal injury, stress, or imbalance.
Segmental Lean Analysis
Lean mass broken down by body segment: trunk, left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg. Catches imbalances you can’t see in the mirror.
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR)
How many calories your body burns at rest. Critical for nutrition planning, your maintenance calories start here.
BMI & Body Weight
Yes, you’ll get your weight and BMI too, but in context with everything else, not as a standalone measure.

Why It Beats Other Body Comp Methods
Most people use a bathroom scale or guess. Here’s how InBody stacks up against the alternatives.
| Bathroom Scale | Skin Calipers | InBody 270 | DEXA Scan | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scan Time | 5 sec | 5-10 min | 60 sec | 20-30 min |
| Metrics Provided | Weight only | Body fat % | 7+ metrics | 10+ metrics |
| Cost in Halifax | $30-$200 (own) | Trainer-dependent | $29.99-$49.99 | $200-$500+ |
| Segmental Analysis | No | No | Yes (5 segments) | Yes |
| Hydration Tracking | No | No | Yes | Limited |
| Where Available | Home | Some PTs | Kaos & select gyms | Hospital / clinic |
InBody is the professional middle ground: dramatically more accurate than a scale or calipers, dramatically faster and cheaper than DEXA, and lab-grade precision for everyday athletes.

What to Expect at Your First Scan
The scan itself is fast. The prep is what makes it accurate.
Prep (2 hours before)
No food, alcohol, or heavy caffeine. Hydrated but not over-hydrated. Avoid intense exercise for 6-12 hours before.
Arrive & Check In
Empty bladder, remove shoes and socks, remove metal jewelry. Wear normal athletic clothing. Voice guidance walks you through positioning.
The Scan (60 sec)
Stand on the platform, grip the handles, stay still. Low-level current measures your impedance across body segments. Completely painless.
Your Results Sheet
Walk away with a printed report covering all 7+ metrics. Numbers you can track over weeks, months, and years.
Who an InBody Scan Is For
InBody is a great fit if you…
- Are training seriously and want to track muscle gain vs. fat loss over time
- Are working with a nutrition coach and need real numbers, not guesses
- Are returning to fitness and want a baseline you can measure against
- Are frustrated with the scale (weight stuck, but you feel different)
- Have a body recomposition goal, building muscle while losing fat at the same time
- Want a professional measurement without a hospital visit
InBody may not be the fit if you…
- Have a pacemaker or implanted electronic device, BIA is not safe for you
- Are pregnant, BIA is not recommended during pregnancy
- Want a diagnostic medical test, InBody is a fitness measurement, not a clinical diagnostic
- Have an unrealistic expectation that one scan tells the whole story, body comp tracking works best over time, not in a single snapshot

Pair your scan with force plate testing
An InBody scan measures muscle, fat and water. Force plate testing measures what that muscle can do: jump height, power, strength, and how evenly you load each leg. Scores out of 100 and a same-day report.

What does an InBody scan measure?
The InBody 270 measures skeletal muscle mass, body fat mass and percentage, total body water, segmental lean analysis (5 body segments), ECW/TBW ratio (water balance), basal metabolic rate (BMR), and weight/BMI. Seven-plus metrics in a 60-second scan.
How accurate is the InBody 270?
Far more precise than a bathroom scale or skin calipers. The InBody 270 measures each arm, each leg and your trunk separately, and runs the same protocol every scan, so the changes you see over time are real. DEXA is still the medical reference standard, but it costs more, takes longer and uses a low dose of X-ray.
How long does an InBody scan take?
The scan itself is 60 seconds. Including stepping onto the platform, voice-guided positioning, and printing your results, the full visit takes about 5 minutes.
What should I do before my scan?
For the most accurate reading: avoid food, alcohol, and heavy caffeine for 2-3 hours before. Stay hydrated but don’t chug water right before. Avoid intense exercise for 6-12 hours prior. Empty your bladder before scanning. Remove shoes, socks, and metal jewelry. Wear normal athletic clothing.
How often should I scan?
Most clients see best value scanning every 4-8 weeks. That’s enough time for real body composition changes to show up while frequent enough to track progress and catch issues early. Athletes in active body recomposition phases sometimes scan every 2-4 weeks. One-off scans for baseline measurements are also common.
Do I need to be a Kaos member to get an InBody scan?
No. InBody scans are open to the public. Non-members pay $49.99 + tax per scan. Kaos members pay $29.99 + tax, saving $20 every time. Non-members book online; members book through the Kaos app.
How much does an InBody scan cost?
$49.99 + tax for non-members. $29.99 + tax for Kaos members, a $20 savings per scan. No subscription, no bundles, no surprises. Single per-scan pricing only.
Is an InBody scan included free with a Kaos membership?
No. Scans are always a separate fee. But Kaos members get the discounted $29.99 rate every scan. If you scan once a month, becoming a member typically pays for itself.
Is BIA scanning safe?
Yes. InBody devices use a very low-level alternating electrical current (well below sensation threshold). It’s safe for the vast majority of people. Exceptions: people with pacemakers, other implanted electronic devices, and pregnant women should not use BIA devices.
What if my numbers don’t look great the first time?
That’s normal, and it’s why the scan exists. Body composition is a starting point, not a judgment. We can review your results, discuss training and nutrition adjustments, and re-scan in 6-8 weeks to see what’s changed. Progress over time is what matters.
A scan tells you what changed. Nutrition is usually what changes it.
If your numbers are not moving, training is rarely the reason. Kaos is a Healthy Steps Nutrition partner gym, so you can get their habit-based nutrition app for $34.99 USD a month, roughly $50 CAD, instead of the $39.99 public rate. Scan before you start, scan again in eight to twelve weeks. See how the nutrition partnership works →
Stop Guessing. Start Measuring.
A bathroom scale gives you one number. An InBody scan gives you seven, plus segmental analysis and water balance, plus a benchmark you can track for years. Book a 60-second scan and walk away with real data.
